"Rhythm is a sequence of beats. It is omnipresent. A great percussionist is able to understand and control the rhythm to provide expression-support in a piece of music. Study of tabla is the study of Rhythm. Whether you are curious about Indian classical music or an experienced western musician, the study of Tabla is shure to satisfy a Rhythm-lover's intellectual appetite."

 

Tabla classes are held weekly in the Bellevue, WA area starting April 2010.

Lessons are given on a one-to-one basis by Guruji Kuntal Roy. Our current students range from children to adults, and from complete beginners to experienced performers.

The core curriculum includes not only developing a student's hands, but also his/her "Loy" (the sense of Rhythm). The classes progress in the traditional manner, following the time-tested classical structure, much of which is set-forth by Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Much attention is given to the nuances of Tabla playing, developing a strong and versatile musicmanship.

The course includes private classes, group classes, homework exercises, practicing with harmonium, vocal, kathak, and provides opportunity to perform in classical and semi-classical settings.
